Apples, originally uploaded by evan_mcginnis.

Since it’s the beginning of a new year I thought I’d embark on a 365 project where I take a photo every day and post to my flickr page.

North Park Water Tower, San Diego California

Finally got out the other day and took some photos around where I live. I don’t know much about this water tower, and the history behind it, but it’s a great landmark in San Diego, Ca.

Back in the states

What a trip! One week in Paris and saw a lot of things, but I know there was more to be seen. Got to spend some quality time with my girlfriend, which was nice, but now it’s back to the real world of working the 9-5.

I had an adventure getting back to the US. Charles de Gaulle airport was quite hectic when I got there and I soon found out why when I couldn’t go past this woman in a military uniform and carrying a giant rifle in front of me. Apparently the part of the airport I was in had been evacuated due to a suspicious bag. After about 35 minutes they re-opened and I headed to check in. I needed some kind of security sticker on the back of my passport which I ended up receiving from one of the airport security agents, but they seemed frantic. After I checked in I had to immediately head to customs and then to my gate which was boarding in like 10 minutes.

I ran part of the way, got through customs pretty fast and then got to my gate right as everyone was boarding. So much for catching my breath and grabbing a bite to eat. I found my seat and tried to get comfortable for the 9.5 hour flight to Atlanta. I can’t sleep sitting up, so I never get any kind of sleep while on an airplane. Got to Atlanta and had to rush to get my luggage and re-check it in and go through immigrations which took a while, then got to the gate right as they were boarding again!

Realized right away that Americans are pretty annoying. I thought my girlfriend was making it up, but what I found annoying about the people behind me was that the man kept whistling and his wife was whining and shuffling cards multiple times while playing cards. I didn’t get it.

Got into San Diego about 8:30pm and was beat. Caught a cab home and arrived at my doorstep around 9 and couldn’t find my house keys! Finally found them after going through my luggage in the front yard in the dark. The guy subletting a room in our house wasn’t home, so I couldn’t have him open the door. When I walked in the house I noticed a note on my door. It was from the guy subletting the room stating he had to leave due to being bit by fleas and had to go to the doctor. I felt really bad that he went through all of that and then realized I’d have to pay him the difference for the days left in the month since he had to leave. Before he had arrived I tried to get rid of the fleas by fumigating the entire house, giving my cat a flea bath and even applying flea medication to him, but I guess it didn’t work. Our neighbors next to us just bought their house and before they moved in they tented their house and as soon as they did I noticed a ton of fleas on my leg while outside on day. So thanks to them we had fleas.

Paris was awesome though, so much to see there, so much culture, so much architecture and so much good food. As soon as I got back to San Diego I realized everything I looked at was stripped of what Paris offered and now I’m bored with the landscape here and need to go see a beautiful part of San Diego soon to make me appreciate what still has to offer. I somehow made it to work today and survived an entire day catching up on e-mails and other work orders that had come in while I was out and that were now due, but I made it.

I took this some time ago, but liked the shadows and the use of the fish eye lens. I got a little tired of using the fish eye all of the time due to it making most of the photos look the same, but it works well with interesting subjects such as this.

Algodones Dunes Photoshoot

A few weekends ago I took some photos for my girlfriend for her portfolio. She had some models model the dresses she designed and made and we headed out to the desert.

Little did I know that the wind out there was going to be 25mph and constant sand hitting us and my equipment, but overall the shoot turned out decent. Some shots better than others, but it was my first time in that kind of setting with the weather and lack of sunlight creating constant pressure of trying to get the best photos before it was pitch black out there.
